The word for today is RAIN. When I woke up it was raining very enthusiastically. When I checked the weather radar I could see that the heavy rain would continue through my window of opportunity for finding a parking spot. So, I left a message for the librarian. Yesterday she had predicted that I wouldn't make it today.

Another round came through about three o'clock and is still going on. (1812 CST)

In between rain storms I did manage to get yard trash dumped in the pool, as well as more than a week's worth of newspapers.

Tomorrow should be beautiful. And when I go in to work I'll get the inventory of the collection all typed up and into the system. I wonder what the archivist will find next for me.

Needless to say, all the parades scheduled to roll this evening have postponed or cancelled out. The major float builder was on TV this evening asking that anybody with a commercial license who could drive a tractor should contact him for work. Tomorrow and the weekend most of the parades cancelled tonight will be rolling--following already-scheduled groups.

Pretty much everything closes down Lundi Gras and Mardi Gras. Tulane/Newcomb classes will resume Wednesday. Some elementary and secondary schools will also be off Wednesday--for "recovery."

Thank goodness that is dominating the local news--much less of the national to endure.

Louisiana decided to have an early presidential primary this year--but it won't be on Super Tuesday. Mardi Gras supersedes politics.

Of course, before Mardi Gras comes the Super Bowl. And a New Orleanian is quarterbacking the NFC champion. The noon news showed the pep rally held at his high school today. It's the second year in a row a New Orleanian has been a Superbowl quarterback. It's probably the only time the Superbowl has had brothers as QB in consecutive years.

So, I'll be rooting for the Giants.

There is a sudden silence--I do believe the rain has stopped. I wonder if that is just a short break or the end of today's storms.

Hope it's the latter.
