2008-03-04 6:28 PM This One Puts Fabian to Shame Read/Post Comments (3) |
Fabian is orange, and he's "solidly built," but he's got about 20 pounds to add before he can compete with this one. I have to admit, tho, that it took me two instants to make the connection with Jabba the Hut. Other than that, today was like many others. I spent the morning upstairs copying material from a 1960s scrapbook. Not only was the paper itself ready to shatter (acid content) but the pictures and baby cards had been put in with the old-fashioned clear Scotch Tape. And that had turned yellow and lost its sticking power so the various entries were completely loose and the tape had fallen off everything--leaving yellowish stains. A few memorabilia were not Scotch taped, but had been pasted in. Definitely a mess, but I got the whole thing copied (in color) and disposed of the useless tape and torn pages. (How else are you going to get stuff that was pasted in off?) Has anyone wondered how I can get up those 19 steps using a cane--and carrying a carton? When no one is around to offer to help I go up (or down) two steps at a time. I put the box up a couple of steps, then "catch up" with it. It's slow, but it gets me there. Coming down I go first (bass akwards), then pull the box down a couple of steps. I find going down scarier, but then I know from sad experience that it is quite possible to fall going down stairs. I discovered today that one cannot tell what color the traffic lights at a particular intersection are at my commuting times. The angle of the sun is such that it obscures the colors almost comletely in the morning--and this afternoon the same was true for the return trip. So how do I tell whether it's red or green? Aside from watching other cars, there is one light on the neutral ground mounted on a vertical pole that is lower than the others. It doesn't get obscured by the rising or setting sun. Anyway, in another week or so the days will be long enough that that's not a problem. On the reading front, I'm near the end of James Patterson's first book about the Women's Murder Club and I should finish it tonight. I've got plenty of other books to read after that.
