Today was an at-home, and I actually got some at-home stuff done. These were pretty exciting, like cleaning both the cat boxes on the same day!! And I got some tidying done in the den.

As a reward to myself, I had a late lunch at Arby's, then headed for PJ's for some quiet reading time. Hrdy is obviously an anthropologist and today's reading was concerned with monagamy among certain of the primate "families." The underlying question revolves around polygyny vs. monogamy, and the circumstances and behaviors that go with each.

When I got home the first task was feeding the resident felines. I think a non-resident male also managed to get some food. I put out food for the raccoons earlier today when I was tidying the den. When I finish playing working on the computer I shall eat the last of the watermelon so that the raccoons can feast on the rind tonight.

Too bad the raccoons can't reach the wild cherries that the birds are pigging out on--and then excreting all over my car. It looks like a polka dot paint job. And I don't think it's resident birds, but migratory birds on their way back north. I see a robin or two almost every day.

Tomorrow will be a New Orleans day, but Friday I shall probably be home. Guess I should break down and take the car to the fancy car wash, where they vacuum inside, clean the insides of the windows, etc.

I have two books competing for my attention--the Hrdy book from the library (one of the books I ordered for myself this morning) and one about Byzantine history--specifically the three queens that actually appear to have had ruling power. The next time I teach I'll probably copy out the section about Theodora and put it on reserve in the library. Then I'll have the students compare the text excerpt with the other work. (I'm almost certain they are not from the same author.)

And now for my "evening," during which I'll watch some TV while I read. At the same time I'll be trying to decide what to wear. If I don't decide the night before I'm usually not awake enough in the morning to make vital decisions like that.

Two more days till the Ides.
