I knew that I had enough gas for a round trip to N.O., but not if there were any significant traffic tie-ups.

So I swung by the gas station on the way into work--and the pumps all had signs saying "no credit cards." I wasn't sure if I had enough cash with me to fill the tank.

I decided to go ahead into work. Luck was with me--(almost) no slowdowns, and the drive home was equally smooth. This time the station was taking credit cards, so I filled up.

And then, just a bit over 2 miles from home, I ran across a MAJOR slowdown. Good thing I gassed up.

The intersection where I normally make a left turn was in total gridlock. Only two or three cars were able to turn on each light cycle. And the traffic coming the other way was equally heavy. I finally surmised that there had been an "incident" at the next intersection--where US11 and US190 crossed.

Did I mention that just after I turn for home there are railroad tracks to cross?

But I'd seen the afternoon freight train headed for the lake as I came off the bridge.

I think it took me at least 15 minutes to make the turn. And there was a cop directing traffic that was coming from the "regular" intersection.

I finally got home, and since then nothing unusual or even slightly out of the ordinary has occurred. There were three cats to greet me by the driveway--Lady, CC, and the one I've been calling TomTom, except I got a really good look at the hindquarters and it might be Thomasina.

The possum who cleans the bowl of dry cat food isn't particularly concerned if I happen to open the door while s/he is eating, as long as I don't disturb the eating.

Today New Orleans was the setting for a three-country talk about NAFTA. Luckily, my drive in was before they shut down the interstate for the bigwigs, and I guess they hadn't finished talking when I went home.

The evening news had a photo-op of GB shovelling it.

(He was helping plant a tree for Earth Day.)

Traffic is building up around the Dome--the Hornets have a playoff game this evening in the Arena (next to the Dome). And there is, of course, plenty of pre-game entertainment in the area.

All things considered, an IUD.
