For some reason, my stomach was not happy this morning, and let me know. So I called the Center, told them I'd see them on Wednesday, and took a nap.

And then I felt fine. I did laundry, then decided it was a good day to weed whack by the mailbox. I took my lawn chair down to the road, then went back and got the weed whacker.

It was a little slower going (weed-whacking from a sitting position), but I managed to get about fifty feet done before the battery on the weedwhacker ran down.

My trash guy arrived just about as I finished, and we exchanged derogatory comments about the re-paving job on my street. They did a fairly lousy job. The road undulates gently near the major intersection. Result: almost any rain leaves large puddles, which can no longer drain into the ditches because they put covered culverts on the low side--and the grids to allow street water into the culverts is higher than the street in a couple of places.

Down at my end it's still open culverts both sides, and the water drains quickly. HOWEVER--when they repaved they managed to leave about four inches of shoulder on one side.

That's where I was weed-whacking, in an effort to make the danger somewhat more visible. My next step will be to paint dots or stripes on the edge of the pavement. I've got a can of fluorescent red for that.

The really unbelievable part is that the contractor who did most of the job is a really good one. They got one side of the I-10 twin span open in less than a month after Katrina.

They must have had their trainees on this job.

Tomorrow it's definitely back to work. I'd better not have a repeat of this morning.
