Change Incredibly to Positively and you've broken the "code."
I was at work by 7:15 this morning. Leaving ten minutes earlier really pays off. No traffic slowdowns anywhere, and therefore lots and lots of parking spaces. The collection I'm currently working is from the Alumnae Office (as I probably said already). It's not limited to Reunion Stuff, but also includes what was once a regular publication for Newcomb College. And that's what I'm getting into now--material about Newcomb Under The Oaks. (That's probably the title of the very slick magazine, but I can't be sure it is.) What's the "oaks" part? Well, this being the Deep South there are lots and lots and LOTS of live oak trees around, and they are really lovely. (I have a live oak in my front yard with a spread of more than fifty feet--in spite of Katrina.) And they produce acorns which the fuzzy-tailed critters like. One of the Newcomb symbols is an acorn--to represent a seed that develops--just as young women are supposed to grow and mature and "bloom" during their college years. Anyway--little by little it's starting to come together. I figure it will take 4 to 6 more days to complete it. It is SO around the library. I'm pretty sure summer school is in session, but almost nobody is using this library. When I was eating lunch (in the spacious lobby) a young woman came looking for a book she needed. I told her I could help her, but it was so long since I'd done a checkout I'd forgotten how to get to that site. So I took her ID number, put in a "due in four weeks" card, and waited till the librarian got back to put the info into the computer. I now know the password (and name) to use to log on. Because I am not on the payroll--or a student--I cannot (officially) get into the library computer. But that doesn't trouble the librarians at all. There are ways to get around things. One of the student workers last year dummied up an ID that I can use to check books out, but I doubt it would work at Howard Tilton (the big library.) If I ever need to check something out there the women's center people will figure out a way around it. So far, it has not rained on me today. There were some dark clouds when I was driving home, but the rain stayed clear of me. Next week I see my primary care physician for the usual semi-annual. I wonder if I can lose twenty pounds by then? Probably not. Anyway, my BP stays nice and low. I need to put out food for the critters. Tonight they get an apple core left from my lunch, as well as the dog biscuits and dry cat food. Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
