And this time the name is Gustav.

The weather forecast shows the usual summer weather till the weekend. And then we'll find out if Gustav is going to go west, south, or north.

The Governor held a press conference in which he said nothing even remotely earthshaking.

Today was basically an IUD--at least until I headed for PJ's for some reading.

As I was getting out of my car my lawyer friend appeared. She had just arrived also.

We chatted about this and that for an hour or so before she had to head off for something or other. Then I got out my mythology books, finished reading Mesopotamian myths and then started on Persian myths. I'm about halfway through that one.

I made a quick trip through Walgreen's (it's behind PJ's) to get a new calculator. My previous one apparently used up its battery. It must be more than ten years old.

And then I glanced at my gas gauge and decided I'd better make a bit of a detour and fill up my tank rather than rushing tomorrow morning so I could do it on the way in to New Orleans.

Gas was $3.499/gallon. (or maybe it was $3.479)

No phone call, so I guess I'm not teaching this fall.

And speaking of Xavier--yesterday the early show (6AM - 9AM) that I frequently watch had an artist as one of their guests. He's the son of a late faculty member who was a very well-respected artist in his own right. The father--John Scott--was the recipient of a MacArthur "genius" award. He died shortly after Katrina.

But I knew the son--because he'd been one of my first Xavier students! His name is Ayo Scott. (Ayo means happiness in Igbo.)

I plan on going in to Newcomb tomorrow since there is essentially no rain predicted. And I'll probably go in Thursday also.

Classes started this week--it will crowded big time there again. It will also be livelier.

And cross your fingers about Gustav.
