2008-08-31 10:40 AM PJ's Wasn't Open Read/Post Comments (2) |
10:44 AM
I headed out for PJ's--who had said yesterday that they'd be open this morning. They weren't. As long as I was out I figured I'd see if maybe Macdonald's was open. No. And--biggest surprise of all--all the traffic lights were on yellow flash. This is Gause Blvd--aka US190W. But when I got within sight of I-10 I could see that the top speed on that road MIGHT be 15 mph. I crossed under it, and oh my goodness! Chaos (almost) reigning at the truck stop, as people tried to gas up. The only eatery I saw open was a Waffle House, but its parking lot was only about half full. I headed back home, then decided to take a look at the other side of town. That street wasn't nearly as deserted--it's US 11, and comes off the old bridge. I imagine quite a few people opted for that route because the interstate bridge(s) are no doubt jam packed. I turned around and headed back home, but had to pause while some fire equipment was escorted by. I have no idea what was happening. It might have been from the fire station nearest the lake. Who knows. There was a guy and his kids out in their front yard down the road from me. I asked if they were staying--he said yes. And I just talked with my neighbor on the other side (Tom's owners) and they're staying too. The mayor was speaking a bit ago, which is why I came back to the computer room. If he's done I'll try to find a reasonably intelligent forecaster. Till later. Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
