. . . the firecrackers around here will start "cracking."

The neighborhood kids have all grown up, and I have yet to hear a single firecracker.

But the people across the streets (that's deliberate--two streets meet at a point in front of my house) almost always have a big family get-together, so I figure I've got a couple more hours of quiet.

I got a bunch of indoor stuff done today, and rewarded myself with supper at Arby's. I'm still reading Pirate Latitudes and I figure it will be a couple of days before I finish it. There's just too much that I've been procrastinating over that really needs to get done.

A lot of today has been spent doing "little stuff," as well as taking a nice nap.

I haven't seen either of the raccoon mamas today, but I'm sure they have been by to eat. After it's dark I'll toss out a bunch of raccoon biscuits for them.

A large part of my day was spent watching the confirmation hearings for the new (proposed) Supreme Court Justice. Have I ever learned a lot about the ins and outs of policy decisions, etc. etc.! Very interesting. One senator made (IMHO) a total donkey's rear end of himself by his style of highly confrontational questioning. I thought the nominee handled it quite well.

Remind me to turn down any job offer that might involve being questioned by a Senate committee.

Maybe I can catch 40 winks before the fireworks start, then get a proper night's sleep afterr it.
