Several raccoons come by to eat here, but one is getting somewhat bold. He (?) apparently recognizes that the human sitting on the porch does not pose a threat to him(?) but is definitely a source of food.
This afternoon I was sitting on the porch when said raccoon came by. He kept looking at me, and then at the empty food dishes. Finally I took pity on him(?) (probably a her) and put out the dry cat food more than a little bit early. Raccoon was quite happy about this. (At least one cat was on the porch when the raccoon was eating.) It's a good thing the critter had come by early, because I saw that I needed more critter food of a couple varieties. So I headed out to WalMart to replenish my supplies of critter food. Later this evening I'll toss out a generous bunch of cheap dog biscuits. People buying animal food tend to be very friendly, and I am far from being the only person to put out food for the wild ones. And now I am trying to decide if I am going in to work tomorrow, in which case I absolutely have to gas up the car this evening--because I can't think of a station on my route in that would be open by 6 AM--on this side of the lake. And then there's the Claiborne Avenue super-duper traffic jam maker. The last time I went in it took me over half an hour to get from the start of the slowdown to the end--less than a mile away. The afternoon wasn't so bad, but then I was on the opposite side of the street. Well--I'll just relax this evening and decide later--although I should probably gas up the car anyway.
