Weather, however, was pretty good. Definitely not cold, nor wet.

I went out for a short drive to check out a good route to get to the Interstate before crossing Lake Pontchartrain.

I've been taking the old Highway 11 bridge, which connects to the interstate on the Orleans Parish side of the Lake.

So what if it's just two lanes (one each way)--it shortens the overall drive.

But--today's paper had the "happy" news that the state is going to install new guard rails on it. The cement ones will go, and be replaced by metal ones.

I don't know what the big deal is--I can't recall the last time there was an accident that broke the current rails.

But back to finding the quickest route to the Twin Spans.

My first thought was to go down a regular street to where it goes under the interstate. I've done that a couple of times, and it's a trafficky pain in the whatever.

But I thought I also needed to renew my handicapped driver's ID. (I didn't--I found a newer version hiding in my wallet.)

I headed down to the DMV, which is relatively close to an interstate interchange. And my problem is solved. That's the route I'll use when the time comes. It has simple on and off ramps, with plenty of visibility.

I don't even want to think about how long it will be till the old familiar route is once again driveable.

But at least I (probably) won't have to fight with heavy traffic.

And another IUD is about over.
