Today was little stuff--the kind that has little to show for it once you are done, but which nevertheless has consumed a big chunk of time.
I got the front porch cleaned off and ready for this evening's "offering" of raccoon (dog) chow. The raccoons are pretty good at housekeeping--there is seldom very much at all left when they have finished dining. Big pieces, little pieces--all gone. They score very high on the neatness scale. I did a quick WalMart run this morning--and then a brief trip to Walgreen's for stuff I'd forgotten in the morning, as well as things unique to Walgreen's. And then a swing through Arby's to buy one of their very delicious chicken salads--which (of course) became supper. Tomorrow will be catch-up day for the various minor household finances. And then with luck, I'll get back to the archival materials. So far, the summer weather has been not bad. Translation--I haven't spent the day covered with the sheen of sweat. The computer room has AC--and that lovely double papasan in case I want to sleep in the cool. The rest of the house has fans strategically placed. Needless to say, I do not miss the huge electric bills from when we had a (working) central AC. On the local front--New Orleans is still losing its daily newspaper. Apparently it will come out only on the weekend and Wednesday. One of these days (in my "copious free time") I need to go back through my checkbook to see when I last paid for daily and Sunday delivery. I think I've been paying quarterly, but I need to know how much so that I can be obnoxious if they don't apply the full amount remaining to the truncated delivery schedule. Naturally, cutting the newspaper production in half is going to mean lots of jobs down the tubes--including those of carriers. If anyone reading this knows of other papers that have cut back their issues, let me know, please. And if it happened a while back and you know of the reaction (reasonably long-term) to the reduced delivery, include that too. Enough for now--I've got a late laundry load that needs my attention.
