2008-02-22 1:00 AM Elsewhere Idea: For The Mere Cost of a Soul Read/Post Comments (4) |
When I watched the first Matrix film, my friend gushed about it, how it was so cool, so possible. He was in awe of the heroism inherent in the concept.
Me, I thought, "Damn, they killed a lot of humanity in the name of saving it." That's the whole conceit. Posit the saviour of us all, the one to fight the manifestations of the Dark. Add in Nietzsche's Admonition, stir, and what do you have? A Chosen One who ends up with no demons to slay, but with hands so bloody that the same humanity sie saved now revulsed and in fear of hir. It's not original. "My Name is Legend" reportedly has the same general conceit. I've not seen either of the films. This instance came from watching Supernatural with SpouseKitty. I can't concentrate when there's background speech, so for me to sit in a room with a powered-on television is to render me a mental vegetable. Except when I spark up little ideas such as this.
