2008-03-17 9:50 PM Driveby Post Mood: Tired Read/Post Comments (1) |
Just a quick post to let everyone know what's up with Clan Kitty.
Momma(in-Law)Kitty is doing okay. She's back in her own place, so I'm back in the bedroom. Actually, spending a few nights in the living room gave me a chance to chill out (perhaps literally) and not worry so much about schtuff and all that needs doing. Kitten and I went to a friend's birthday party yesterday. I don't drive, so we took the bus to the point nearest said friend's house. The trip planner (http://transit.metrokc.gov) said it was half a mile fromt here. It didn't say it was half a mile uphill. Still, Kitten had a load of fun, even if they changed their activity location at the last minute and I had to hail a cab to be at the right place at the right time to pick up the right pleased Kitten. SpouseKitty is sleeping soundly, finally. She (and I) had to wake up every two hours to put ice on Momma(in-Law)Kitty's cast. Two hours on, one off. She did the Friday night/Saturday morning shift, so I did the Saturday night/Sunday morning shift. She still woke up, but she at least didn't have to get out of bed. Sunday night/Monday morning, she covered and ordered me to stay asleep upon pain of death. CBS' 60 Minutes had a surprising and alarming article about sleep deprivation. In case you can't tell, I'm perennially sleep-indebted. Well, it's been indicated in many, many ailments including depression and overeating. In addition, people tend to function better after a good night's sleep instead of burning the midnight oil. In other words, people are less likely to get things done in an all-nighter + groggy-next-day than they are with two reasonable days. I need to rethink my life. Today at work was a no-op. We moved offices. I don't know why we do this, but every six months I've had a new office. Each office move is at least a day's downtime for every single person in the entire group (sixty-strong.) That can't be cheap. My new office is a 9' x 9' walk-in closet. One wall is window (icky, I hate sunlight's glare) the opposite wall is a patio door. Yes, I live in a fishbowl. Fortunately, I had just the thing: giant Post-It(tm) notes. A few of those later, and I had my privacy again. Our desks came with monitor arms, but some with up to three monitors on the post. The center monitor didn't retract, so when it was mounted to a corner unit, the monitor was too far for use. I figured out how to attach another arm to the mountpoint instead of just the panel holder and quickly taught some other teammates to do so. The new office is 4 miles from my house. The last half-mile is a pretty steep hill. Going down it coasting, I hit 25 MPH. Going up it puffing, I probably hit 4 MPH. (A brisk walk on level ground.) It's a good ride, but the office doesn't yet have a shower, so I'll have to take it easy, pack a shirt, etc. Anyhow, all's well at Chez Kitty. It's 10PM, and I should hit hay. I wish I could email, IM, etc. I'd say "s*rry" but I know I oughtn't -- real life comes first. Still, I miss you all and hope this post finds you all happy and safe. Hugs!
