A recent gossip columnist reports that Barbara Streisand's website sports the following ameliorative sentiment for disappointed Democrats:

"Although written in 1798, I feel his [Thomas Jefferson's] words speak perfectly to the strong sentiments of frustration and disappointment 48% of the country feel...'A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles.'"

The Bush Administration as a "'reign of witches'" that's cast a spell over the American people? Oh, that's rich -- and it's a new one on me. I'm having trouble deciding whether what other liberals are characterizing as a theocracy is really a center of Satanic power or not. I had supposed the enlightened were above such resorts to pitchfork and flame.

But then, the Hollywood libergentsia are rarely as on point with the content of their public statements as they are with their hair and makeup. I don't denounce their efforts to serve actively in the citizenry. However, I do believe that some take on a role of political spokesman with ridiculous seriousness, Streisand among them. They'll do better to lend their presence to charity and PR events for their causes. Attempting to cast an aura of authority while verbally pushing product should be left to fake tv doctors and other snakeoil salesmen.
