2005-07-10 12:21 PM Rhyme and Rhysling Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (20) I just got the good word that my poem "Soul Searching" won first place in the Rhysling Awards, Long Poem category, given by the Science Fiction Poetry Association. And my poem "Making Monsters" won second place in the same category. Other winners and whatnot are listed here. And a shoutout is very much due to the fine poetry editors at Strange Horizons, who published both my winners, and one of the other winners as well -- fully half of this year's Rhysling winners came from SH. Winning this is cool. It's made additionally cool because Rhysling winners are usually reprinted in the Nebula Awards Anthology (almost always, though technically it's up to the discretion of each year's editor). Thanks to everyone who nominated and voted, and to everyone anywhere who read and liked the poems. If you like genre poetry, and haven't joined SFPA, you should -- you get 6 issues a year of their journal Star*Line, which has lots of great poems, and the annual Rhysling anthology, which includes all the nominees, and which has really been a lovely chapbook these past couple of years. And if you think my winning is a horrible travesty, well, you should still join, because then you can vote on the Rhyslings, and make sure the error is never repeated. Now I'll have to amend that part of my bio that says "Tim Pratt has lost the Nebula Award, the Campbell Award, the Gaylactic Spectrum Award, and the Rhysling Award, and hopes to lose many more awards in the years to come."
