In the wake of finishing The Light of a Better World I expected a few days of idleness (apart from, you know, the full-time day job), but it was not to be. The past two evenings have been spent turning scattered notes into synopses for two proposed books, and polishing up a sample chapter. Synopses are tough for me, but I think I did okay. I also need to write some flap copy for my upcoming collection.

I'll be idle tomorrow. Bone idle!

So I guess that means I'll write the flap copy on Thursday.

Rangergirl got a good review in Chronicle recently.

I'm not sure whether you should call this contemporary fantasy or horror, but whatever you call it, you'll want to read it. Marzi McCarty is a quirky and very likable character, working as a waitress full time and writing the comic strip of the title in her spare time. Marzi's life becomes more interesting when a series of very strange incidents impinges on her career. A woman killed in a landslide is back from the dead, driving around with her own dead body in the back seat as well as at the wheel. An odd art student get stranger than ever. An ancient entity is stirring and the fate of the world may rest in her hands, when she's not serving coffee that is. This reminded me at times of Tim Powers, but for the most part it was all Tim Pratt, and all very very good.

My story "Little Gods" is being reprinted in the Ukrainian magazine, Real'nost' Fantastiki (AKA Science Fiction Reality). Ukraine!
