Heather and I have been good about exercising lately, taking long walks, etc. Yesterday evening we planned to do the same, but then we discovered Holly in the backyard grilling up some sausages and hanging out with our nephew, so we went down, ate their food, chatted, played with the kid, etc. for a while. After a while I said "Let's walk!" and Heather and I went outside to get our shoes on. Then I heard our landlord's voice in the backyard, talking to Holly, and since I needed to talk to him about something, I went down there. Before long Heather joined me, and then one of our other neighbors came over, and we all started talking about various things, including a recent break-in at a nearby house, and the fact that the supposed robbers had been glimpsed in our back yard earlier the same day, only to flee when they saw one of our neighbors watching them from a window. Then our landlord offered us some wine... and, well, there you go. We were in the back chatting and drinking until about 9 p.m., and by then it was too late to walk, since Heather and I also had to make dinner. We get organic vegetables delivered every Tuesday, so Monday nights are "eat all the remaining vegetables from last week" nights. We had giant salads topped with avocado and some grilled chicken. Mmm.

A nice night, and socializing is important, but we felt bad for not exercising. (Granted, I had to haul and split firewood for my boss yesterday, so I felt like I did get some exercise in.) So tonight we're going to the gym in Berkeley. We will be virtuous.
