We're back from Maui! (Wait, that doesn't deserve an exclamation mark. There needs to be some sort of... despair mark for that.) The week on the island absolutely flew by in a whirl of lava flows (the drink, not the magma-bursting-above-ground stuff), kalua pig, swimming with baby, hiking, immersing ourselves in tidepools, eating crazy insane delicious meals, reading, and generally relaxing. It was marvelous.

Now I'm back in the land of reality, alas, balancing my sorely-depleted checkbook, opening a week of missed mail, and downloading about 7,000 e-mail messages, mostly but not entirely spam. The baby, who adjusted quite well to the three-hour time change on our vacation, seems very unhappy to be back in Oakland, though he did perk up a bit at the sight of some familiar toys.

On the plus side, we get today and the weekend to get our heads screwed on straight before it's back to work...
