Behold the cuteness of my son! Photoset from June. (Note: He's not actually eating a cheeseburger. He doesn't much like meat, except for bacon. I think it was a soy-fake-chicken burger.)

The weekend was pretty effing awesome. Got a lot of work done on my Sympathy for the Devil anthology; the manuscript is basically done! Just need to get the copyright/permissions page put together, write a brief intro, maybe some story notes. I'm still waiting on a handful of contracts to come back to me, but it's very near being totally done.

Saturday we did the usual wander down to the Farmer's Market thing. It was a hot sunny weekend, so River played in the fountain for a while, and ran around at the park, and etc. Sunday we went up to Lake Anza so River could swim. He had an awesome time. Heather and I took turns chasing him around in the water and, alternately, sprawling on a towel in the sand relaxing. Hot dogs and root beer floats and chips for lunch. Wonderful summer fun.

Lake Anza's not as good as a real beach -- it's basically a pond with a sandy shore -- but you can get wet and play in the sand, so for River, it's heaven.

Last night we had fajitas for dinner and beer and ice cream (it was so hot) and iced tea. Life was good. Even though bad news of various kinds continue to accumulate, we haven't lost our capacity to enjoy beautiful moments.
