One of the more interesting things about living near New York City is how the effects of even the most mundane everyday actions are magnified. Case in point, check out the above article from the NYTimes Magazine section about chewing gum on the sidewalks of the city. I'm sure this is true for a number of other large metropolitan type areas, but not being from one myself, I'm just endlessly fascinated by things that turn out to be important here. Chewing gum rating a mention in a mayoral address? God, I love this city.
