2003-02-23 11:03 PM Went to my first (hopefully of many) New York City Ballet perfomances today. Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (1) Oh, it was sooooo good. I am developing an appreciation, even an enjoyment of modern dance, but ballet is always going to be my first love. And Symphony in C, which closed the performance today --- gleaming white tutus, pointe shoes, classical music, Balanchine --- it's like pure sugar to me. I'm not saying it was perfect -- what live performance is, and there were a few odd bobbles here and there (although they seemed mostly related to a bunch of last minute cast and program changes). But I loved it anyway. Kind of wish I didn't have to go with my dance history class though; dancers are so good at picking apart performances, and SLC being a modern based program, there are a lot of reverse snobs who reject ballet for any reason. To each her own, I suppose.
A good end to a weekend that didn't start out so well, got some unsettling family news that I won't share here because it isn't my immediate family and it's not my right to spread it all over cyberspace. Suffice it to say it got me thinking a lot about how well we ever really know what's going on in other people's private lives. And now it's icing over outside -- I HATE WINTER!!!
