Just because you don't believe it, doesn't mean I didn't mean it. 277394 Curiosities served |
2003-06-25 7:02 PM Well, it's official. Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (1) My little brother Alex is engaged to his girlfriend, Chaunna. The wedding to be held next June in Homer, Alaska (Chaunna's hometown). So I get a trip to Alaska, which is cool, and my little brother has turned into this mature, thoughtful, human being while I wasn't looking, which is cool, and I'm getting the sister I never had which is also cool. I'm just not sure I'm ready for my immediate family to hit the in-laws stage. And of course after the in-laws stage comes the next generation stage, which I am DEFINITELY not ready for. Maybe this wouldn't feel so surreal if I had actually met Chaunna, but since I missed her Spring Break visit, I am the only one out of the entire paternal side of my family that hasn't. I called my cousin Richard last night to tell him the news and since he's on my mom's side he could at least share in the weirdness of this. I should have put some exclamation points in here to illustrate that I am actually excited about this, huh?
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK, I have other things to be excited about. My parents are coming up for 4th of July weekend and we're going to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown! I have been wanting to go there for the longest time. Better yet, since my parents are coming I won't have to a) drive b) pay for anything! Hmmmm, this may be the root of my feeling that my family isn't really adult yet. Nah, when we visit my grandparents, my mom has to fight my grandmother to let her pay for stuff. It's summertime! It finally stopped raining and has been in the 90s all week (hardly anyone can understand the switch from rainy and 60s on Sunday to 90 on Monday, but it feels just like Oklahoma weather to me). I am so glad I bought a room air conditioner. Driving without AC has not been as bad as you might think, luckily there are plenty of parking spaces at Lamont that are completely shaded all afternoon, so that helps. But we'll see how it goes tomorrow when the heat index in the afternoon is supposed to be around 100. Still, it just feels so good to be outside with the hot air wrapping around your legs, especially in the evenings. I am definitely a warm weather girl.
