After reading a few pages, the final scene of a story I have been plugging away on for two weeks until getting stuck by said scene suddenly clicked. I picked up my notebook and wrote it out. Now I have the initial draft (my very first drafts are always handwritten, it means I have to type and revise in order to get a draft other people can actually read) of a short story all ready for when workshop starts.
But that's not all! After cleaning my apartment and reading some more, I suddenly felt the urge to look at the last story I wrote for workshop last semester, which got really good response but needed some adjusting (it goes back and forth between two main storylines and there was a general consensus there was too much emphasis on what was supposed to be the minor one). So as often happens when I get these editing fits, I went through the entire draft and rewrote (although I didn't have to rewrite a lot of the text that was already there, unusually, just add a bit and cut several sentences of unecessary detail). Then I actually sat down and retyped it on my computer. It's damn good, if I do say so myself. I rarely toot my own horn over my writing, but I just feel that this piece works. So in one day I've managed to be more productive than I've been two months. AND I cleaned the apartment. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
