2005-08-23 5:51 PM Random After-the-fact Story Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (0) I can't believe I forgot to post this, but this happened when my parents were here a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, thanks to my many connections in the NY theater industry (uh, or the ticket office at NYU, which is the best employee perk ever), I was able to get tickets to Movin' Out (the Twyla Tharp/Billy Joel musical/ballet. I hear the touring company will be in Tulsa next spring. But that's beside the point.). So we dressed up, not to the extent that Sus and I dressed up when we went to see Rent, because it was a matinee, but my parents had on nice pants and tops. I was wearing a long peasant-y skirt which is pretty common in the city this summer, and it just happened to match this dressy sleeveless top I have so, I wore it with that. Nothing real fancy.
To get to the theater we had to wade through all the tourists in Times Square, which, I was one of them once, but I don't completely understand the fascination. I guess everyone has to see it once, but could you please try to see it without blocking the sidewalk and screwing up the traffic pattern? It's of course impossible for three people to walk side by side in the crowd, so I'm leading the way and mostly thinking about how to get through as quickly as possible without also losing my parents in the process. Then, right as I cross 42nd, this woman who is crossing the opposite direction takes a step towards me and says in my ear (not whispered, really, it was loud enough for my mom to hear, she just turned her head in a way that made it clear it was directed at me), "I love your outfit." Isn't that just totally random and nice? Why yes, I am in a good mood today, thank you very much. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
