2007-03-28 5:10 PM Putting Myself Out There Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: getting s- - - done Read/Post Comments (1) I finally decided to check on the old SLC grad writing webboard (so poor in design that the person who put the board up is still listed as the administrator, despite the fact that she left SLC before I did) and lo and behold there were actually entries in the "Contests and Submission Calls" thread that interested me. And not only did they interest me, but I actually had a few more or less finished pieces ready to submit. And not only did I have pieces ready, I had them with me, thanks to my jump drive. I still find it astonishing that I can carry around the latest versions of everything I've written in the last five years on a device that is the size and shape of a tiny pocketknife. Anyway, I got one story sent off (email submissions rock!) and one printed up and ready to drop in the mail (uh, I was testing how my new work printer did with eighteen page documents, yeah, that's it) as soon as I get home to add the SASE and contest entry fee to it.
Also, the untyped version of the Novel Type Project reached the end of Act II last night (there are two major turning points in the story that sort of alter everything that comes after them; I've taken to referring to them as act breaks, because I read too much TWoP). So we're past the halfway point and on the downhill slope to the conclusion. I seem to have agreed to attend a launch party for a journal I've never read with someone I've never officially met (one of the other Pboz web editors; we've only communicated through email). OK, it wasn't that passive an agreement -- she asked, I discovered I'm in one of my rare I-want-to-meet-new-people moods and decided to take advantage of it. So that should make Saturday night quite interesting. So since I'm doing all sorts of things to get myself into places I've never been before -- 'cause I've never been published, huh, see what I did there? -- perhaps you could do the same? The comments on this post aren't going to type themselves, you know (and you don't have to sign up for anything to post one -- that's one of the reasons I moved over here in the first place). Or you could sign up for email alerts, if you aren't Jac, and then my completely random posting schedule won't be so frustrating. And there's always the del.icio.us link to see what random things are keeping me entertained during the slow periods at work. But, you know, if you all want to go on just reading the blog and that's it, feel free. Just trying to encourage you to change it up a little.
