Both because it worked out all of my pent-up frustration and because it wore me out enough that I got a great night's sleep. One minute I was lying in bed wondering if I should put in my earplugs because the neighbors had turned on their TV, the next I was hearing my alarm go off, still lying in the same position (which is really unusual for me, because I tend to toss and turn a lot).
Julianne Welby is torturing me with the misused sports nomenclature again. She finally seems to have dropped that annoying "pick up a loss" phrase that so drove me crazy, only to yesterday refer to the Yankee's nine game winning streak as a "June swoon." Sigh. And yes, I did pay extra careful attention to make sure she wasn't talking about the Mets, to whom that phrase would actually apply. Sometimes I wonder if the sports guys at WFUV feed her this stuff on purpose to see if she'll say it on air. I was trying to remember if I've ever been less interested in the NBA Finals than I am this year. Then I remembered last year. This year I did actually watch the entire second half of Game 3, if only because I was afraid I'd miss LeBron going all Jordanesque again. (Game 5 of the conference finals was the night after I flew back to New York and didn't get home until 3 a.m., so I went to bed early.) I don't think I watched any of the games at all last year, though in my defense I was in the process of moving so I wasn't watching much of anything. At this point, the only thing that could get me to sit through an entire NBA game on TV is if the Music Machine was one of the announcers. I don't know what to do with the Cardinals this year. Considering we're barely fielding a starting rotation at this point, our catcher has a broken wrist, and our second best hitter has a bacterial infection in his knee, it's kind of a miracle we don't have the worst record in the league at this point. (It's also testament to the crappy, crappy division we play in.) I don't like losing, but in a season when the team you root for (1)is defending World Series champions and (2)had an active player die mid-season, it's a little hard to get worked up about the possibility of missing the playoffs. I'm just happy Albert's back to being Albert again. If we can hang in there long enough to get everyone healthy and playing again, who knows what could happen?
