2008-01-07 3:59 PM Happy New(ish) Year! Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (0) I have two resolutions this year: Keep in better touch with my friends, and learn how to cook (as in, make your own tomato sauce kind of cooking). In keeping with the first, and because three of my friends mentioned it to me in a week's time, I set up a Facebook account on Friday. Then I had to ban myself from the computer for the rest of the weekend after I stayed up until three messing around with it. But I did discover a girl I went to high school with (and danced with) lives in Brooklyn now, so that was kind of cool. Next up: getting better at emailing/calling Jac and Yoda, among other people.
Working on my second resolution, I tried a new recipe last night, which did not turn out so well. Turns out one should check to make sure one has a roasting pan before one decides to make roast turkey. So it was less "Roast Turkey with Cranberry Glaze" and more "Baked Turkey with Runny Cranberry Sauce." It was edible, at least, and I don't appear to have given myself food poisoning. Also, I forgot to plan for a side dish, so I ended up eating a bag of popcorn to fill up (and because I needed something salty after the very, very sweet cranberry sauce -- I may have put too much brown sugar in). This resolution may be harder than I thought. I did not resolve to finish my novel (one of last year's resolutions), because I finally started the absolute last chapter (of this draft anyway), and it felt like cheating. On a doesn't-matter-to-anyone-but-me note, I am renaming Married Brother and Sister in Law. I happened to learn a couple of Married Brother's work nicknames (he freely volunteered them at dinner one night -- either he actually wants a new nickname or he had a lapse in judgment) -- after some consideration of both, I'm going with Chuckles, because he's always laughing at me. Also, I think Sister in Law is going to have to be Science Girl now, though I do not plan to use that nickname in the sentence "Go home, Science Girl," as often as her loving husband does.
