Thought at the Beginning of a Three-Day Weekend

The clouds and the weather forecast are endangering the traditional 4th of July weekend festivities -- hopefully it will clear up long enough to at least see the fireworks this evening, even if I don't get to go to the beach tomorrow -- and I haven't written an entry in over a month (!) so forgive me my navel-gazing introspective mood.

Somehow, this has become both the most eventful and most boring summer of my entire life (and it's barely half over). I say eventful because of my workplace drama, most of which I thought was over until I had a little freak-out earlier this week about my changing job responsibilities. The one good thing to come out of all of this is I've gotten to know some of my co-workers a lot better, and they've been really supportive and understanding about my situation. (Which I still have to be vague about at least on a publicly accessible Internet forum, sorry.) But the summer's also been eventful because so much has been happening to my friends and family. Some of it, like Radio Brother losing his job, hasn't been fun. But there's been a lot to be happy about: Sus is buying her dream house, Chuckles and Science Girl bought and moved into a condo, and the Maths Wizard did pretty awesome at the World Series of Poker. Not to mention finally getting to see my own work in print, and two of last year's Pboz stories getting singled out for some pretty cool honors.

Still, it's been a long time since the everyday grind felt this ... grindy. I haven't been posting because I haven't had that much to say, and even less time and energy with which to say it. But there's less than a week until my nice long vacation -- and since said vacation includes attending my high school reunion, that will definitely be a break from the norm. And no matter what the weather does this weekend, I'm still having homemade guacamole.

Enjoy your Independence Day; hope it isn't raining wherever you are.
