Music: John Hiatt's "Y'all Caught?" TV/Movie: Curse of the Jade Scorpion/The Simpsons Link o' the Day: Making Light (Teresa Nielsen Hayden's weblog) No clever quotes tonight or even deep thoughts. Mentally tired now. Between a couple of stories I took a little poetry break and polished up a couple of poems I wrote last week. I've sent off three to The Pedestal. I have a few more which will be winging their way to the Boston Review come the morrow. I'm pleased so far with the story I began based on thre Thurber opening. My story has nothing at to do with the original inspiration other than a man in a revolving door and a crowd. The current working title is "Dignity." Okay, the Simpsons tonight has been a very odd episode. I'm not quite sure what to think of it. One thing it makes me glad for is that I quit drinking a couple of years ago. Well, that's not something I'm going to get into right now, but suffice to say that I expect that this episode of the Simpsons offered as many benefits to the issue of alcoholism as the movie "Arthur 2" did--i.e., none at all. Ah well. This being a Sunday night, it's a night when the TV actually has the volume turned up. I've no idea what's on right now--I'm just killing airtime until Law & Order:CI comes on. My writing for the day is done, and the html work I have planned for tonight can be done as I watch Detective Gorham solve this week's case with the genius and skill that makes him the best TV detective since Columbo. Now I babble. All in all, it's been a relaxing weekend--and productive. And I even got a chance to view another movie today--"The Curse of the Jade Scorpion". Not one of Woody Allen's best--but by no means his worst. It lacked the depth of his early movies, but was much better than Radio Days. The plot relied a bit much on dramatic irony which is one of those things I have trouble enjoying. (Note: I was never a big fan of TV's "Three's Company".) But on the whole, the characters and their interactions were interesting and the mystery had a nice little gimmick. All right, that's enough for now. On to some html'ing and then off to bed. Another work week doth arise with the dawn. Godam. Cheers! --John Teehan Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
