Music: Public Image Ltd. TV/Movie: Titan A.E. Link o' the Day: "Insiders and Outsiders" (Locus) The response to my writerly APA proposal has been trickling, but present. Out of curiousity, I looked around to see if there were similar APAs running. I couldn't find any, although I learned that there used to be several with participants such as Robert Silverberg, Lisa Tuttle, and Marion Zimmer Bradley. And in thinking about it, PITFCS (Proceedings of the Institute for Twenty-First Century Studies) is much like a writerly APA in that a lot of authors (Isaac Asimov, Poul Anderson, Anthony Boucher, Damon Knight, James Blish, Philip Farmer, and others) wrote, round-robin style, letters, articles, and reviews to their group. (This was before SFWA was launched.) So there is a promising precendent for this sort of thing. (Anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about, read the previous entry.) * * * Writing goes well. Did another thousand words since yesterday of something which seems a bit promising. Freelance, I've been working on some ad materials and polishing the Bob & Ray & Tom chapbook. Only other item of note is I'm going to the doctor's for the first time in over 20 years. I just got a phonecall from Pretty Maggie informing me that the appointment has been moved up because the doctor went home sick (herm) and that I'd be seeing a nurse-practitioner instead. Hmm.. no sample medications this week. * * * I'm looking forward to next week when Pretty Maggie and I head out to Cleveland to visit friends. We're renting a car and driving. Nine hours she says. Nine hours? That's what she says. I figure that will save us three hours if we were flying. Plus we have mobility once we're there. * * * An amusing article showed up at the Locus magazine website. It purports to be by one Paoli du Flippi who alert readers should recognize as someone else almost-entirely. If you are bemused and mildly nauseas of the way some writers try to distance themselves from the label "science fiction writer" then you'll get a kick out of "Insiders and Outsiders". Enjoy!
