Music: Herbie Mann's "Birdwalk" TV/Movie: Kill Bill Vol. 1 Link o' the Day: The Internet Review of Science Fiction tis a very busy day today at the office--much more so than usual. I recently saw the first Kill Bill movie, and I was impressed. Tarantino has done a very creible job in paying homage to various aspects of Asian cinema. While I didn’t care for the style of anime he used for Ren O-shii’s backstory, I suppose I can’t say it’s not genuine. I just don’t think that the realistic/grotesque style used in that sequence fairly depicts Japanese anime as a whole. Like with the hentai anime and the ultra-violent titles, this sort of anime (which is in the minority) gives the rest of the genre a bad name. But I suppose I nitpick on this because I’ve been involved in anime fandom for... jeez... fifteen years now? More? * * * I’m pleased to say that the fur has ceased to fly at casa de tumble. Nemo and Phineas are getting along fairly well, and while there are still wrestling matches, they seem to be friendlier. They even get upset when we separate them, and there have been brief sightings of them dozing together. What’s particularly nice about this setup is that with Phineas around, Nemo is too tuckered out to bring about massive amounts of bloodloss on poor Pretty Maggie and me. I can barely see the scars on my arm these days. I promised pictures, and will try to take some this weekend w/ the new digicam. * * * More news. Apparently The Complete Guide to Fantasy is up for a small press award of some sort. I have a press release around here someplace featuring my name. I’ll try and dig it up and incorporate it into a future journal entry. I don’t usually write here on the weekends, but I may make up for missed days this month by posting more either tonight or tomorrow. For now, though, it’s back to work. Today’s link goes to The Internet Review of Science Fiction. This is a very professional piece of work here. There are not only reviews, but essays and interviews. All good reading for those who are serious about the SF world. Check The Internet Review of Science Fiction’s site as soon as you can. I believe that up until June, year-long memberships are free. After that, you pay. Cheers! Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
