Music: John Hartford TV/Movie: Mission Hill Link o' the Day: Sick Puppy Studios An interesting weekend, to be sure. Saturday I spent the day with Chris Reilly at Sarges Comics and More in New London, CT to help celebrate Free Comic Book Day. It was quite an event. I'd guess there were perhaps 3,000 visitors during the course of the day, all there to check out the free samples and wares from various comic book companies, big and small, meet and greet artists and writers, take advantage of great sales, engage in cosplay, and have fun in general. I picked up a huge collection of free comics, plus took advantage of the selection and sales and found a couple of items I'd been searching for. (Vol. 1 of Justice League International from 1987) and some Reid Fleming (the world's toughest milkman) comics. I picked up Persopolis for Margaret though fully admit that I intend to read it as well. With everything, I'm nicely stocked up with items to review. Guests included comics creators Brett Swanson, Matt Roscetti, and Randall Ensley. Also present was pro-wrestling legend Ox Baker (noted also for his performance in Escape From New York). Members the the 501st Stormtrooper Division were on hand, the folks from Sky Pirates of Valendor, and folks from the Comic Artists Guild. Chris Reilly was there to sell and sign a number of his books from Slave Labor. I took up a spot next to him promoting TumbleTap and Bearmanor, and generaly just had fun. Sarge's took care of everyone with free popcorn, pizza, and drinks. We had good seats and enjoyed the spectacle of people. A lot of folks in costume. Shout-outs to Smurfette, Superman, Slave Leia, Mara Jade, the X-Men, Annakin, and the young version of Cloud from FFVII. A lot of fun. Good times. Good deals. A great way to promote comics and a great way to kick off convention season. I'm already planning on attending next year. -=-=-=-=- Work wise, I should stand here jawin' with you. I gots work to do. I did figure out a way to make one of my jobs go by much more quickly, and come out nicer looking than the way I was doing it before. I love it when that happens. -=-=-=-=- Which brings us swiftly to today's link: Sick Puppy Studios home of art and comic creations of Brett Sanson. He's got some interesting stuff here...well worth checking out. Enjoy! Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
