Tonight DC and I went to Bryant Lake Bowl (BLB) for their Monday night "Date Night". I wasn't aware this even existed until a flyer fell out of my Onion. The deal is you get a bottle of wine, two entrees, and bowling for two all for $25. It's a steal! The bowling lanes are pretty warped, and the lanes are by no means "regulation", but it's a fantastic place to bowl. So DC and I get there, expecting it to be packed with people. Nope. There were only a few tables of couples, some people at the bar, and no one bowling. This is awesome because an evite had been sent out a week earlier telling everyone to bring a date and participate in Date Night. There would have been enough room for everyone... but no one showed up.

The Date Night special is a special entree. You don't get to pick your meal. Tonight's special? Indian Curry with cauliflower. Now, I think BLB is actually fancier than I give it credit for, but something about ordering curry from a greasy-spoon diner/bowling alley just doesn't seem right to me. Add to that the fact that I don't like curry and I'm not a huge fan of wine and the Date Night special started to look less and less appealing. DC and I opted for 2 orders of grilled cheese with "mashers". We got there right before 6pm and snuck a happy hour order in just in time. Taps are all $2.50 a pint until 6pm. A Stella for DC and an ACE Pear for me. Our grand total? $23! YES! We beat the special! Well... we didn't bowl, but whatever. It was still a fun date.

I would totally go here again for Date Night. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the chosen entree is something more up my alley. I just have to order Sprite to go with my wine.

BLB is also a great place for weekend breakfast/brunch. I personally don't like to eat big meals when I'm hung over, but for those of you who do, BLB is one of the best places to do it in Uptown. Be prepared to wait for a table. It gets busy.
