We have now visited or spoken with many of the people we announced to. We had some, as the title suggests, unexpected reactions.

One person we thought would be uneasy was absolutely supportive and asked all kinds of questions. One person who we expected to be cautious certainly was, to the point of almost offending me with a comment. We've received congratulations from people we didn't expect - or even send a card to.

Yet some people we thought we would hear from, have not said a word.

Fascinating.

Is it the unexpectedness? The loss of something positive to say? The curiousity of a lack of a biological child being so overwhelming, that they don't say anything at all? I suppose it boils down to - they can't believe it or agree with it, so don't want to offend... or are still coming to terms.

Doug likes to be positive - maybe it's so normal, they don't see a reason to lavish us with congratulations. I would argue that if I announced I was pregnant, we'd certainly have heard from more people. Am I bitter? If I am, I'll justify it and say rightfully so.

Maybe it's timing.... again, because of no physical proof a baby is coming, it's not "real." Well, our checkbook certainly says it's real!
