I read a quote somewhere that said being a parent of a small child is the closest anyone can get to being a deity. I pointed out to Doug that means I should be able to hurl thunderbolts or something like Zeus, but he said I should be more like God (Morgan Freeman) in the movie "Bruce Almighty." I'll settle for that!

We've had our ups and downs this week. Wednesday was really rough for both Roman and I - he was NOT taking a nap, he was twisting & shouting, crying and hiccuping, and then I was crying because I was so frustrated...

Thursday was my first day away from Roman. The parents VE came over to babysit while I went to a Social Studies Institute meeting, the first of a three-year commitment to redesigning the 8th grade American History Unit, making it flow with the 9th grade American History portion, and then "massaging" into our own teaching styles a new way to teach - one that I strive to do every few lessons, but now we have the "bone structure" of how the lessons should be put together. Quite an ambitious project.

Anyway, parents VE took Roman out to eat for lunch and on top of his bottle gave him some pancakes. He slept an hour and a half. How the HECK they did that... we couldn't figure it out. And then upon talking to my sister-in-law, she advised us to just stuff him silly. That Roman truly will stop when he's full (or spits up), and he will probably sleep better during the day if he has a full stomach.

So the next phase of Operation: Figuring Out Our Child commenced today. He took down 1-3/4 bowls of cereal for breakfast, a bottle and 3/4 large jar of sweet potatoes for lunch, plus various Cheerios that didn't slip out of his fingers. By noon (as I was preparing to get my own lunch) his eyes were so heavy in his booster seat that he couldn't keep them open, just long heavy blinks. I took him in to rock and I didn't get through 2 rounds of "Twinkle Twinkle" before he was asleep. Wow.

Unfortunately, we have to be at the doctor's at 1pm so I will have to wake him up in a half hour. But so far, our mission is going well! And Roman was generally more happy this morning than he usually is, giggling and babbling. It was a pleasure.
