So yesterday we were all packed, I was getting out of the shower, and then we were going to leave. The phone rings. It's my Mom. A wicked storm had passed through their side of the state and she was out of power. She wanted us to be forewarned before we left.

So Doug went to check it out online, and we got another phone call from a friend in Kalamazoo. The wicked storm had blown through, and she wanted us to be aware of it. So now I started thinking, this must be a serious storm for people to call us.

Holy $%^&.

I flicked on Channel 7 Action News and saw PURPLE. I have never seen purple on a weather map before. Oranges and Reds, yes. Never purple. They were telling people from Lansing to Ann Arbor to take cover immediately. Then the EBS broke in with their whirring and clicking, shouting at us about hail, power outages, trees down, and possible tornadoes. Doug's reaction - to go out and buy me new windshield wipers "because yours suck" he says. I started thinking about heading to the basement, and whether to put Roman down for a nap as it was time. Doug says eh, don't worry, the purple starts in our town and goes south. We'll be fine.

Then the Emergency sirens went off in town.

So we grabbed the cats, Roman and a bottle, and headed to the basement. We didn't even get much hail - it was rather a disappointment after all the hype. Our power didn't even flicker! But south of us, holy baloney, did they get hit. They were already flooded Downriver, and more rain just made things worse. Tornadoes hit around Metro. People were reporting that the skies were GREEN. I have seen yellow-pink skies before a storm. I don't recall seeing Green.

So we doublechecked the weather where we were going to camp, and they had upgraded the possibility of rain to 70%. Doug checked the long-term weather maps and there are storms stacked upon storms up into Canada. So we have a lazy weekend at home.

Bonus day - Doug took Roman out on errands, so I can take the longest shower known to mankind without a child yelping at me. Hooray!
