2006-09-01 11:59 PM The little weather system that could It's a hurricane! No, it's a tropical storm! No, it's a tropical depression! No, it's a tropical storm! No, it's... ERNESTO!
Ok, so this Ernesto fella has been hanging around ALL DAY LONG. When I talked to my mother in Wilmington, NC yesterday, it didn't seem like it hung around there quite as long as it is here. At least the wind anyway. It's still raining a bit, but damn is it windy! The weather people, and we all know how reliable they are, said we were supposed to have 25 - 35 MPH winds today and tonight. Not so much. How about 35-45 MPH winds with gust into the 60MPH range. They changed the local forcast every time they showed it! And don't get me wrong, it rained, and rained and rained. I'm really surprised more of the town didn't flood. The older part of downtown did, but it floods when we have a good thunderstorm. The power hasn't gone out, but it has flickered a handful of times. To tell you the truth, I was kinda hoping it would. Not for long, mind you, but for an hour or two. I like sitting by candlelight, everything so quiet except for the sound of the wind and rain. It's very soothing. There have been a handful of powerlines down across the town, and a tree or two on the other side of the bay, but we've managed so far. And mom, don't worry, the house is still standing. (Our house was built in 1949 and is on stilts. This makes her nervous.) Trust me, there have been plenty of stronger storms coming through that could have taken her down. And if it got that bad, we would have left. OOOOHH!! One last thing, has anyone ever used ear candles or ear cones? They're these hollow tubes of cloth coated in wax. You put the semi pointed end in your ear, light the other end and let it burn. The smokes going down the tube creates a vacuum and forces all the crap out of your ear and into the tube. I did it to the hubster tonight and it was gross. Not only does he have the regular gunk in his ear, but he surfs all the time, so he had some chicken of the sea in there as well. GRRRROOOOOOSSSS!!! But it's kind a cool at the same time. I might give it a go tomorrow. best fight scene ever Read/Post Comments (4) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
