2006-10-02 8:29 PM Sh-sh sh-sh SH- SHARK!!! These photos were taken the other day, out front of our house. This is a Thresher shark, estimated to be between 6 and 7 feet. It beached itself and the cops let it die. It's dorsal fina dn back are all torn up, and we're thinkign it got sucked through the dredging pipe that is being used for the beach replenishment.
I did a little research, not because I was scared, just curious. Since 1670 and up to the present there has never been a reported shark attack. Delaware (which is just about 4 miles norht of us) has had 3 attacks with no fatalities. Virginia has had 4 attacks and their one and only fatality was back in 2001. Small sand sharks and such, are seen out in the water all the time. It's funny how many people ask me about sharks and attacks and if we ever get scared. Um, hello! It is the ocean. Obviously they're out there, but it's not like we're Amity or anything. There aren't any giant great whites swimmming around, wreaking havoc on our memorial day weekend and threatening to ruin our entire summer! So, I'll go on to swim another day.
