2007-02-27 4:01 PM you're kidding, right? Ok, so it's confession time.
As many of you already know, I am a voracious reader. I go to the library about once a week and check out a ton of books and I belong to Bookmooch. I read a little of everything that is fiction: Mystery, Suspense, Women's Lit, lots of Chick lit. But I LOVE ROMANCE NOVELS. Not the Historical, Regency kinda stuff, but the everyday Contemporary romance novels. Something else you might not know -I'M A SUCKER FOR A HAPPY ENDING! I want to read something that leaves me feeling good when I'm done. There is enough depressing crap going on in the world nowadays to make up for the dramatic 'real life isn't always a bowl of cherries' endings to books. I want to forget about the pits sometimes and let myself be carried away to some far away world where you meet, you fall in love, you win a million dollars, you kill the bad guy and you and the hero ride off into the sunset HAPPILY EVER AFTER. With that said, I have also been sucked into another sub-genre of Romance - Paranormal Romance. Gimme a couple of werewolves, some telepathic badasses and a bunch of really hot, really sexy vampires and I'm a happy camper. Call me cheesy, but whatever. It's one of those things that in time will pass - for a while I read nothing but medical mysteries, then murder mysteries/suspense, on to chicklit, etc. So, I picked up a book on BOOKMOOCH>COM the other day by OK, as far as story and characters. I'l admit, knowing there were 2 more books in the series, I was intrigued. Where would they take me and how would they end up? So I went out and bought them (they were on a ton of wishlists on BOOKMOOCH, and I wanted to read them sooner rather than later.). I read the second one on Sunday and started the third, and final, yesterday. Last night, with only 10 pages left, I was in the middle of the superdupermajorbigtimeclimax. And what happened when I got to that last page? How was I feeling? I'll tell you - I was PISSED! That's right, you heard me! THERE WAS NO HAPPY ENDING!!! MR. PERFECT DIED. THE LOVE THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO LAST FOREVERANDEVERANDEVER DIDN'T! Now, call me a little crazy, but I was really bummed out. Especially after all the crap the 2 main characters had gone through to get to a point where they were finally happy with each other, accepting there love, their vampirism and the world around them. AND THEN HE DIED! I cannot stress this enough! I looked for a website for the other, trying to find out if she changed her mind and was going to surprise us with a fourth book where Mr. PERFECTHOTASSCOOLASHELLVAMPIRE would be resurrected and come back for his one true love, but there isn't one. Nada. Nothing. Zip. Zilch. But what I did find were a handful of websites dedicated to book reviews and reader comments, and several people who were just as bent out of shape as I was. Do any of you ever get that way over a book you've read or movie you've watched? But whatever, enough. I'm over it. I've found my composure. I'm moving on with my life, on to read another day. I even did some revising of the original MS I had written about a year and a half ago. I changed up the ending a bit, so hopefully it will make it a little stronger. I really want to get it out there and start submitting it to agents. It won't be the worst thing in the world if it doesn't get picked up, or sold for that matter, but at least I can say that I tried. One thing I would like to find out: would any of you be interested in doing a full critique at some point? I'm talking punctuation, grammar, plot, etc. I'm almost to that point, and I really want to make sure I've got it perfect and ready to roll. Thanks guys, for listening to me rant! I feel so much better now! Read/Post Comments (7) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
