I orignally posted this at my old journal in February of this year, so it's nearly a year old, but it all holds true, and I worked a long time on it so that people reading it could actually hear the songs. So all you have to do is click the song title and you should be able to hear the clips...this was fun though probably something only a true music dork like myself can appreciate!

1. A song whose lyrics you thought you knew in the past, but about which you later learned you were incorrect.

This always happens to me, then years later when I haven’t heard the song in forever, the lyrics suddenly become clear. It’s so odd. I guess the obvious and pretty plain answer to this question would be “Blinded By The Light”. Everyone mistakes that songs lyrics, they even did a Saturday Night Live skit about it I think. It wasn’t till years later that I discovered that not only did Bruce Springsteen write that song BUT that his version is much better than Manfred Mann or whoever did that version everyone knows.

2. Your least favorite song on one of your favorite albums of all time.

I’m sure I have tons, but first to mind is “Grace” by U2 off of their All that you can’t leave behind” album. The last 4 songs really do nothing for me, but this one’s the worst. Sucks. Worst writing ever.

3. A song you like by someone you find physically unattractive or otherwise repellent.
“The Passenger” by Iggy Pop. This song and others are great but god, is he the scariest looking guy ever? Freaky really.

4. Your favorite song with the name of a city in the title or text.

“Dear Chicago” by Ryan Adams is probably my favorite song with a city name, and it happens to be my favorite city as well. (Even though most people know him for another city song, “New York, New York”. It’s a horridly sad song, but really pretty and I just adore it. I have quoted this song many times and will do so again:

”Dear Chicago, you’ll never guess. You know the girl you said I’d meet someday, well I got something to confess. She picked me up on Friday, asked me if she reminded me of you. I just laughed and lit a cigarette, said that’s impossible to do.”

5. A song you've listened to repeatedly when you were depressed at some point in your life.

Wow…well I think the first thing that comes to mind would be “Lover, You Should Have Come Over” by Jeff Buckley. It’s so sad and beautiful, much like him and his life.

”It’s never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder. It’s never over, all my riches for her smiles when I slept so soft against her. It’s never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter. It’s never over, she’s a tear that hangs inside my soul forever.”

6. Ever buy an entire album just for one song and wind up disliking everything but that song? Gimme that song.

I think this happens a lot. I know many people love them, but this happened to me with “Still in love song” by The Stills, the list goes on but this was the last one.

7. Your favorite song that has expletives in it that's not by Liz Phair.

Oh now I love me some song lyric swearing…but I am not sure if I can pick just one. The first ones that comes to mind would be
Ryan Adams – “Come Pick Me Up”:

”I wish you would, come pick me up, take me out, fuck me up, steal my records. Screw all my friends, their all full of shit, with a smile on your face, and then do it again. I wish you would…”

Ben Folds Five – “Song For The Dumped”:

”So you wanted to take a break, slow it down some, and have some space. Well fuck you too. Give me my money back, give me my money back you bitch.

And also the part in Cake’s “Nugget” where they say ”Shut the fuck up”. Expletives are really quite fun to sing along with in songs!

8. A song that sounds as if it's by someone British but isn't.

Ok this is a bizarre question. ”I just don’t think I’ll ever get over you” by Colin Hay – I think he’s actually Australian…does that count? I don’t know.

9. A song you like (possibly from your past) that took you forever to finally locate a copy of.

That would be more like an album than a song, but Camper Van Beethoven’s Key Lime Pie album. My husband had a tape copy of it that was old as all get out, but it took ages for us to locate it on cd. ”Sweethearts” from that album.

10. A song that reminds you of spring but doesn't mention spring at all.

Ok, this just popped into my head – Katrina & The Waves "Walking On Sunshine". Kind of lame but best I could come up with. And that scene with Jack Black’s character dancing to this in High Fidelity is an all-time favorite of mine.

11. A song that sounds to you like being happy feels.

Ok, this is going to sound odd, but it’s more a sound than a certain song. It’s Chuck Berry’s guitar. The beginning of ”Roll Over Beethoven”. But his guitar sound in generally is happiness to me, not to mention the basis of rock and roll as we know it.

12. Your favorite song from a non-soundtrack compilation album.

”Shotgun” by Junior Walker and the All-Stars which is on a Motown compilation album. The whole album is great but this song rocks. Some of you may remember it because I think it was on the opening songs for the Cosby Show one season.

13. A song from your past that would be considered politically incorrect now (and possibly was then).

Well, it’s not the greatest thing, but was very controversial when I was younger. “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mixa Lot. You guys remember this of course. I was probably 12 and thought it was hysterical. I can’t even believe I’m linking a clip of this!

14. A song sung by an overweight person.

“I never loved a man (the way I love you)” by Aretha Franklin. She’s a classic and I just adore this song. Even though this question is kind of lame.

15. A song you actually like by an artist you otherwise hate.

”Epic” by Faith No More. My husband loves them, I like this song only and can’t stand the rest of it. But I get tortured with it from time to time. For as much stuff we like in common, there is that much more stuff we like separately and the other hates.

16. A song by a band (whose members actually play instruments) that features three or more female members.

“It’s on the rocks” – The Donnas. I like them a lot, really cool and all girls!

17. One of the earliest songs that you can remember listening to.

I can’t pinpoint an exact song…but it would have to be something either by Prince or Cyndi Lauper. Although in truth my mother used to play me a lot of Linda Ronstadt and Rick Springfield when I was very young. Come to think of it…I would have to say ”Jessie’s Girl” by Rick Springfield. Remember the album cover with dog? Real appropriate subject matter for a pre-schooler, huh?

18. A song you've been mocked by friends for liking.

Well, my husband always teases me for liking “I think I love you” by The Partridge Family. Otherwise people think it’s lame that I like Jennifer Lopez and Justin Timberlake and other such “TRL-esque” music. I can’t help it. I don’t think it’s usually earthshattering or Grammy worthy, but it’s good fun. )

19. A really good cover version you think no one else has heard.

Ok, two instantly come to mind. First “Tangled Up In Blue”, Bob Dylan song covered by the Indigo Girls. I actually prefer their version. Next, “Honky Tonk Women”, Rolling Stones song covered by Taj Mahal. This is how I think this song is supposed to sound. It’s amazing and very bluesy.

20. A song that has helped cheer you up (or empowered you somehow) after a breakup or otherwise difficult situation.

It hasn’t cheered me up exactly but the song I’ve been listening to a lot lately has been ”Sleepsinging” by The Damnwells. It’s just helping me get some perspective on my situation.

21. What was the last song you downloaded?

”TKO” by Le Tigre last night for my Ipod. This song is so awesome. Makes me want to dance.

”I heard you read my mind behind my back”

22.(a) An album you love that is flawless from start to finish (in other words no song skipping necessary)?

22.(b) The song that made you get the album in that first place?

The first thing that comes to mind would be Doolittle by the Pixies. The songs are all kind of short, but I really don’t think there is a dud among them, which is rare. And the first song I ever heard from this album is called ”La La Love You and is probably like a minute long.

23. Give me the song title which you think best describes who you actually are. Explain.

”Lo-Fi Tennesse Mountian Angel” by Whiskeytown - Well, I’m a pretty low maitanence, laid back type girl, I am originally from Tennessee (although Memphis, not the mountains but close enough) and well sometimes I can be an angel!

24. Now give me the song title which you think best describes your personality. Explain.

Well my husband and others would probably say ”Nitemare Hippy Girl” by Beck. I wouldn’t totally disagree with that

25. Quick – your favorite clever song lyric!

This lyric is from ”Big Dipper” by Cracker:

”And hey Jim, Kerouac, brother of the famous Jack,
or so he likes to say - lucky bastard.”

26. A romantic song that is NOT cheesy & your favorite lyric from that song.

Easy one…though I could probably think of a hundred, I think I’ll choose ”Lay Lady Lay” by Bob Dylan. I think it’s just lovely and sweet.

”Whatever colors you have in your mind
I'll show them to you and you'll see them shine.
