Woodstock's Blog Books and other stuff I feel like discussing By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat. |

2006-10-16 9:25 AM Who is Woodstock? Part the second Here's a little more about me. I live in the suburbs of Denver, Colorado with my spouse and two cats. Today is the fourth anniversary of my retirement from full time employment as a tax accountant. While I still work about ten weeks a year for a friend who has an accounting practice specializing in taxation, I am very pleased to have full time involvement in any kind of work behind me!
I don't remember not knowing how to read. I know I read quite well by the time I entered kindergarten in the late 1940's. This, of course, was long before the days of Sesame Street, Head Start, and matter of fact enrollment in preschool. My parents don't remember for sure, we all surmise I was self taught. I just figured it out. The librarian in the small Iowa town where I grew up was disinclined to censor anyone's reading choices. In elementary school and later junior and senior high I had free reign of anything which caught my eye. I worked my way through the library's collection of Nancy Drew, and later Ellery Queen, Elswyth Thane, Nero Wolfe, Frank Yerby, and dozens of other choices. My mother would often discipline me by taking away my stash of library books. I regarded this as the harshest of injustices. But I see now that she had an excellent grasp of how to get my attention! As high school wore on, followed by college, marriage, a full time job, and then motherhood my time for recreational reading declined. But about 15 years ago I began to read more and more - and as the Internet became available to me on a daily basis, I discovered an entire world of people devoted to suspense fiction. Now, for the most part, I read. I watch very little television, no more daily tasks of motherhood, no more commitments to a full time job. 2-3 books a week is about average. And I publish reviews. There are links above to BooksnBytes and to the achives of CrimeSpree magazine. I entertain the fantasy that some day a publication will offer me real money for reviews. That remains a fantasy, but I will keep subscribers to my blog updated on progress, if any. Happy Reading, everyone! Woodstock Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
