Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Changing the masthead yet again

Since Lady has been with us now for two weeks and a day, it seemed appropriate to elevate her to full household status with mention in the journal heading.

She's kind of tiny, weighing about seven pounds. She has been working on her courage, and curiosity has won out - she investigates every nook and cranny she can find. She and I are in a gentle battle of wills to see who will get to retain first dibs on the blue denim chair in the living room which has been my "reading nest" for several years now, and which she prefers to any other spot in the house.

My wonderful big Siamese Sinatra, who died in late 1999, had a slender tail which he held high above his back, often in a characteristic "question mark" configuration. It's obviously been awhile since that was part of what I beheld every day, but Lady prefers her tail to assume that series of curves. It's a lovely sight!

Her coloring is mostly grey, mottled with lighter patches of yellow, faint orange, and cream. Her paws are just lovely, very hard to describe, light cream and dark grey all at the same time. The breed description at the shelter where we picked her up described her as "dilute tortie." Googling that phrase brings up the information that a combination of tortise shell and calico will produce this coloring. She has some tiger stripes, too, on her legs and bib under her chin.

After some vocalizing and posturing, Grinch is willing to coexist. I doubt if they will ever be super dooper friends, but I think eventually they will decide to play together. He loves a game of "call and response" and a mad dash to nowhere special. Maybe he can teach her.

Back to being a multi-cat household. It feels good!
