Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

A brush with something else!

For a Sunday afternoon game, I check in at the stadium at 8:30. Traffic is almost always light in downtown Denver that time on Sunday morning. Heading to the employee parking lot entrance, I drive northeast on a long straight street which goes through the old warehouse district, and I often have a string of green lights ahead of me for five or six intersections or more. That was the case yesterday.

Going along at a legal, leisurely 30 mph, I was jerked to terrified attention by another driving running a red light (at about 50 mph) across the intersection I was entering. I came very very close to broadsiding her car. She gazed out of her window with a startled "where did you come from?" look on her face, and then proceeded on her way with no further ado. It took nearly 45 minutes for my adrenalin rush to subside. I can only wish it took her longer.

When I got my 1989 Toyota MR2 about 12 years ago, I named him "Mister T." Sunday morning was our last adventure together, I traded him in this morning on a 2008 Scion xB. I hated to say goodbye to Mr T, but my knees have been telling me for several months to get a car easier to get into and out of. The xB is recommended by services running the spectrum from NPR's goofy Car Guys to Consumer Reports. And a couple of friends, including Sue in Oklahoma, own them and are enthusiastic boosters.

I've met the author C J Box, who writes an excellent series of mysteries featuring a protagonist who shares my surname. The xB's boxy body shape has prompted me to christen it "C J"
