Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Coors Field Nugget Eight - stRetch Run

The Rockies marketing department never misses an opportunity to capitalize an "R" and they currently are selling ticket packages for a series of home games they're calling the "stRetch Run."

It's hard not to get excited. As of this morning we were bunched up with three other teams in the NL wild card race, and in third place in the NL west, having managed to pull ahead of the Dodgers by a game and a half. Rox beat San Diego quite decisively last night and play the Dodgers in LA at the end of the week. The last time the team was in contention like this was 1995.

Crowd size at the stadium has been increasing steadily, the ballpark operations office is interviewing for usher and ticket taker positions. In the meantime, the 15 day disabled list is gaining members, including three guys from the starting pitching rotation. Not good news. But last night in San Diego a kid named Ubaldo Jimenez, whom none of us had heard of a few weeks ago, grabbed his turn in the spotlight and pitched six innings of shut out ball allowing only one hit. The bullpen came in and completed a three hit shut out.

Hard not to believe that the team could pull this off after a game like that!

Keeping fingers crossed and looking for my rabbit's foot - - -
