Woodstock's Blog Books and other stuff I feel like discussing By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat. |

2007-10-01 6:10 AM Coors Field Nugget Nine - oh boy I'm feeling very cautious as I write this, most people involved in baseball are very superstitious.
For the first time since 1995, Rockies are in post season play. We have a one game tiebreaker tonight with the Padres for the National League Wild Card spot. The game was over about 4 or so yesterday, my switchboard lit up like a Christmas tree, and I was not able to get out of there until 6:30. Among other calls, one guy phoned who was preparing to file a police complaint against one of our ushers. If we would provide club level seats free of charge for him and his family, he was prepared to skip filing the police report! When I left, only a handful of seats for tonite were still available. The phone traffic brought our phone system to its knees, we could not place outgoing calls at all - I was only able to call Mr Woodstock using a cellphone offered by a gracious person who overheard my plight. Website also went down, at least the ticket purchase portion. I don't think I will ever forget seeing Todd Helton bouncing for joy as he ran to the mound to congratulate closer Manny Corpas.
