Woodstock's Blog Books and other stuff I feel like discussing By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat. |

2007-10-03 1:53 PM Trip of a lifetime I can't really say what caught my eye about the Elderhostel trip to Norway. A year or so ago, our local newspaper had an item in the Sunday travel section about the trip on the coastal steamer and I kept the article, although I don't remember reading it! About a year ago, I saw that Elderhostel had added it to its "Adventures Afloat" catalog, and the spark was lit. Whatever the motivation, I'm so glad I persuaded Mr Woodstock to commit to the trip.
I've had the question placed to me several times to relate my favorite part of the trip. It's very hard to pick one favorite moment. I enjoy learning about history unfamiliar to me, and the little museum at Televag was intriguing and provided information about a tragic incident I was unaware of. A day or two later I rode that little rubber boat, catching sight of the magnificent eagles and bouncing off the side of the maelstrom. And I know my fellow travelers would agree that the third peak would be the hospitality of our Sami guide Trine and all she shared with us and the obvious depth of her research as she got ready for our visit. I've had quite a few nice comments from both friends and strangers about my sharing of my memories and photographs. I'm glad you all enjoyed them. I encourage anyone who has "itchy feet" and loves to travel to put the Norwegian coast on the long term planning list. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
