Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

More on the Rockies

Tina Griego writes a regular column for the Rocky Mountain News. She usually covers the tension in various Denver neighborhoods between Hispanic residents, from families who have lived here for generations as well as families who are newly arrived in the US and seeking a toehold.

Her comments in today's column about a team which has been "built, not bought" come very close to why they strike a chord in me.

I'm pretty sure that the RMNews does not keep their entire edition available online very long for non subscribers, but for a few days, at least, you can read a very insightful analysis of community reaction to being NL champions.

One of the comments on my entry last night observed that it's "cool" to be working for a team on its way to the World Series. Cool, indeed, and my faithful reader Eric "gets it" about baseball in general. Not everyone does, and it's fun to correspond across the bandwidth with others who "get it."
