Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Coors Field Nugget Two - Changes

Every year as baseball season approaches, I begin to dream about Coors Field. Late one season a few years ago, the staff was instructed not to bring any drink labels into work which would prove we were patronizing a competitor of Coke, the "offical soft drink of Coors Field." We were still free to drink whatever we wanted, we just needed to remove a non Coca Cola label from the offending bottle. Early the next spring, I dreamt that a new Seven Eleven store went up in the players' parking lot, the staff was sneaking back there to buy Pepsi, and the players were complaining mightily about the parking tickets they got from parking on the street since their parking places had been eliminated.

Well, a couple of weeks ago the local newspapers reported on a major renovation to the right field side of the suite level at Coors Field. Nine of the large corporate suites have been removed, and a large "super suite" is going in as a replacement. Expanded catering capacity, more seating, and more opportunities to sell big bucks tickets to large parties.

So, when my dreams began - what else? A good friend and I had signed on to work a game, but instead played hooky and went to see what the new suite was like. In the dream, there was a putting green; a large children's play area complete with sandbox and wading pool; a large locker room and dressing area for ticket holders to shower and change clothes; and so on. Each time my friend and I began to ooh and ah, our boss would come looking for us and we would have to hide. Mr Woodstock was our escort for this inspection trip {he works at Coors Field, too, and was mildly on my case that I forgot to mention that in the last nugget} and he was nervous that he would be discovered as an accomplice in our skipping work. I will most probably dream about Coors Field at least once or twice in the coming weeks.

The real suite will not be as grand as in my dream, of course, but it's going to be pretty plush. A game ticket for between $110-$140 will get you food, but not drinks. Sliding glass panels will enable attendees to screen out crowd noise and/or weather, if desired.

The newspaper article on the renovation reports that Opening Day, at $175 a ticket, is sold out; and also that many of the remaining corporate suites are already sold out for the season coming up.

Winning sells tickets! And posh luxury, as well!
