Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Forgotten Books Friday

It's been several weeks since I added to this - but the project continues to grow over on Patti Abbot's blog . Today I'm suggesting STAY OF EXECUTION by Stewart Alsop. This is hard to pigeonhole into one category - it's partly an autobiography, part commentary on the America of the mid 1970's, and also a rather rueful discussion of the author's mysterious illness. At first diagnosed as leukemia, his malady puzzled doctors for a year or longer since the what was a "normal" procession of the illness in those years did not occur.

There is enough suspense here to satisfy mystery readers, and enough action and wartime escapades to satisfy thriller readers.

His illness claimed him in early spring 1974, about a year after the book was published. My guess is {I haven't checked} that it's out of print now, but it's probably available through your local library as well as through various used book searches.
